The result of a period of research and collaboration, this piece was a custom project designed for a family living in Madison, Wisconsin to tell their story and that of their beautiful home overlooking Lake Mendota. 

From the fossilized creatures of the Cambrian basement up through the recent ice age into the present, the ten strata at the base of the piece represent millions of years of biological development and geological changes taking place in the Madison area. The skyline over the lake counterbalances a view of their home against a summer sunset. On the lake, a selection of native birds swim and wade while dad and daughter take an oxygen reading of the deep water on their boat. Buried objects such as their dog’s tag, horse teeth, a lost ice skate, binoculars, a crescent wrench, and more, were each carefully selected for their significance to the family.
